We had a great day on Saturday and i though i woudl try and explain a bit more about barcamps having had the experience of one.

regular conference organisers woudl be horrified at the 'lets see what happens' ethos of a barcamp gathering, because you get there and there is no schedule. ok, that's not strictly true, there is a schedule, but there's nothing on it. (does this woman talk any sense)

what i mean is there is a blank schedule, divided into 20min time slots. These are up for grabs. Meaning that if you feel you have something worthwhile to present, or you woudl just like to get an interesting discussion going about a particular topic, you grab a post-it, fill it in and stick it on the schedule.

here is what the schedule looked like just before the lunch break:

my talk is up there on the 10.40 slot - tax for techies.

Emma Perskey did a talk for people who had never been to a barcamp before which was good cause alot of people hadnt been.

So the whole day anyway ended up like any ordinary conference i woudl have paid good money to go to, and better than some i have attended.

and apparently these barcamps get run all over the world, there woudl be some sort of loose main theme, like this one was for people interested in technology and internet stuff in general. there are multiple seminar rooms, so at any one time, there is a talk gogin on to suit you. there were geeky talks for those that want that, and there was a health an nutrition talk too.

Sounds like something that would be fun to organise.
